Jeanette Lau Gooey

Story

Jeanette Lau Gooey (1958 – 2020)

Loved and cherished by very many, “Nettie” was a caring daughter, sister, doting aunt, cousin, loyal friend and conscientious colleague. She lived a full life, but was taken far too soon.

Jeanette overcame breast cancer, diagnosed in 2010. However, in 2013 , she was diagnosed with Gastro-Intestinal Stroma Tumour (GIST), a cancer so rare that there are no cures, screening test or prevention method.

Jeanette benefited initially from surgery and access to a trial drug. But later treatments failed and she passed away in June 2020, aged 61 years.  We are grateful to Associate Professor Lara Lipton and Professor John Zalcberg for their care and support of Jeanette.

Jeanette was courageous, generous and passionate about helping other people living with cancer, and fundraising to support clinical research.

We want to honour Nettie’s life and continue her legacy by supporting the GI Cancer Institute to find better treatments for patients living with Gastro-Intestinal (GI) cancer.

This is a cause very close to our hearts.

Thank you so much for your support.

The Lau Gooey family.
